What You Will Experience Here

Tours of the historic site include a 20-minute award-winning movie, narrated by Hugh Downs. On the main floor of the Glenn Home visitors are treated to a living history tour. Actors in costume greet you at the door and take you through the house as though it were the day you visit, only in 1944. The actors portray one of five different characters: John's father, his mother, a male or female college student who is renting a room from the Glenns or a teenage neighbor boy. In 1944, John Glenn is at war in the South Pacific. We talk about life on the homefront and the sacrifices being made to help with the war effort. One of our volunteer guides will take you through the rest of the house where you will see John's bedroom which looks like it did when he was a boy, and a toy room where we have some of his childhood treasures, including his tricycle and train. Other displays include a 1/3 scale model of the Friendship 7 space capsule in which John Glenn took his historic flight in 1962, the jumpsuit he wore after he got out of the capsule, and some of his military uniforms.
The entire tour takes about an hour. (A little longer for large groups)
Dinner tours:
At times when the historic site is closed to the public, groups of 15 - 30 may choose to have a meal during their visit. After the movie, while our guests are touring the home, we transform our visitor's center into a dining room and caterers set up a delicious buffet for them to enjoy. Contact us for more information.
