“Once Upon a Dime” – $3 per student
Take a special trip along the “National Road”. The 136’ diorama of the road will be used to explore the use of money and items of barter in the years it covers (early 1800’s through the 1920). Using play money and items, teams will be issued scenarios in which they will count challenging their economic and decision making skills.

People have always had a means of going from place to place. Early people traveled on foot, rode upon animals or used animals to pull a conveyance. Along the National Road many types of wagons were used.

American Girl Movie – “Kit”, 2008 –
Starring Abigail Breslin. Bright, inquisitive and generous, Kit Kittredge is a natural born leader. Her happy childhood is abruptly interrupted when her father loses his car dealership and must leave Cincinnati to look for work. Learn more about the Great Depression’s effects on Americans. Admission by donation.
Thursday, June 27, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. (NRZG)
Children’s Movie – “Cars”, 2006 – Directed by John Lasseter
This is an American computer animated comedy adventure film produced by Pixar where the cars are in a world populated by anthropormorphic modes of transportation. The movie is fun for the entire family, especially with all the cars in the National Road/Zane Grey Museum. Admission by donation.

Limit 20 – $15 per person – Reservation Required
Activities to include: Dynamics of Flight, Rocket Science, Solar System Walk, The Science of Outer Space, and Launching John Glenn’s birthday with cake for everyone.
Tuesday, September 17, 4:00 – 7:00 (JAG) “Dynamics of Flight” - $3 per student
Come and enjoy learning what makes airplanes and rockets fly, through the construction of paper airplanes.
Tuesday, October 1, 4:00 – 7:00 (NRZG) “Paving the Way West” - $3 per student
This program is designed for ages 10 – 18, families included.
The museum’s 136’ diorama is a perfect depiction of the construction of the National Road. During this program, students are set in the mid to late 1800’s as they are taught surveying techniques to determine the best placement of the road and put on work crews to construct both Macadam and brick roads, rock by rock and brick by brick. They learn what it might have been like to work on a crew constructing the original National Road. At the end of the day each worker is evaluated and paid for their work.

Monday, December 2, 5:30 – 8:00 (JAG) Christmas Open House –
Our door is open the evening of the New Concord Christmas Parade for you to step in to the living room and see the beautiful Christmas tree with Lionel train, as John Glenn would have enjoyed. Then enjoy hot chocolate and cookies served on the porch by Historic Site staff and volunteers.
Sunday, December 8, 1:00 – 4:00 (JAG) “Christmas at the Museum” Open House –
Bring the family for an afternoon of fun and enjoy the beautifully adorned trees throughout the museum which have been decorated and donated by local businesses and community members. Special holiday music will performed by JG Company and spinning demonstrations will be going on throughout the afternoon. Remember our beautiful Ohio bird friends this season and make pinecone birdfeeders to hang on your trees as a winter treat for them. Enjoy the holiday refreshments including roasted chestnuts.
Monday, December 10, 4:00 – 7:00 (JAG) “Christmas at the House” - $3 per student
Enjoy the house decorated for Christmas as in John Glenn’s time. Watch the electric train under the tree, listen to a Christmas story, and make an ornament for your tree. Enjoy hot chocolate and a cookie.
